Lauren Luke is a new type of celebrity. A 28-year old single Mom from South Shields in the North of England, She has become the latest poster child for YouTube and the power of social media. Lauren started her journey to contemporary fame by broadcasting her innovative makeup tutorials from a webcam in her bedroom. With a passion for color, a contagious sense of humor and a genuine, down-to-earth quality, Lauren instantly connected with many women all over the world.
By creating her own how-to videos for YouTube, chatting with thousands of friends via Facebook and MySpace, sending daily updates on Twitter, and posting photos on Flickr, Lauren has become an unlikely sensation. She was a subject of a one-hour BBC documentary, appeared on the CBS Early Show, Fox & Friends, Good Day New York, has had articles written about her in Elle, Allure, The New York & Los Angeles Times, Vanity Fair, and has her own column in the UK’s Guardian newspaper. And recently, Women’s Wear Daily awarded Lauren the most promising ‘Newcomer of the Year’ in beauty for 2009 who “electrified industry insiders with her bold approach to beauty.” She is also booked to appear on The Today Show on January 29th.
Lauren’s innate expertise is in teaching women how to create the hottest makeup looks, including celebrity looks like Leona Lewis, Rihanna, Angelina Jolie and Dita Von Teese, as well as everyday looks, like weddings, bachelorette parties, proms and date nights. She perfects her step-by-step looks on herself as she clearly explains the products, shades and technique with easy to grasp video demonstrations from start to finish, with no editing.
In September 2009, Sephora launched five ‘By Lauren Luke’ makeup kits across 135 stores nationwide. And the success continues. Lauren’s makeup book “Look Like a Star” launching now in the US chronicles the authentic and endearing inspiration she provides to women on camera. Plus, due to her immense influence and popularity with a younger demographic, Lauren Luke is featured as an avatar in a virtual makeover video game scheduled for release for the Nintendo DS.
